Get to Know the Hager Stainless Steel Continuous Hinge

Industrial Hardware and Specialties offers a wide array of Hager heavy duty stainless steel continuous hinges. These Hinges are designed and engineered toevenly distribute door weight along the full length of the door. This design will eliminate localized stresses on the frame and reduces the risk of hinge failure.A well constructed and installed hinge can also help eliminate stress on closers, automatic operators, and panic and locking hardware by helping doors to stay properly aligned, lengthening the life of these associate door mechanisms.By purchasing a Hager Stainless Steel Continuous Hinge from Industrial Hardware and Specialties you can be confident that your applications will stand up to the daily rigors of high-traffic and high-impact areas of use.

Selecting a Stainless Steel Continuous Hinge

1. Which style do I need?

Industrial Hardware and Specialties offers Hager Stainless Steel Continuous Hinges in four distinct styles:

Hager Stainless Steel Continuous Concealed Leaf Hinge - Concealed leaf hinges are mounted between the frame and the hinge edge of the door.

Hager Stainless Steel Continuous Half Mortised Hinge - Half mortised hinges are applied with one leaf mortised into an edge of the door, while another is surface applied to the door frame.

Hager Stainless Steel Continuous Full Surface Hinge - Full surface hinge are used with both leaves surface applied, one to the door and the other to the door frame. The hinge will be fully visible when door is closed.

Hager Stainless Steel Continuous Half Surface Hinge - Continuous half surface hinges are applied with one leaf mortised into the frame and another is surface applied to the edge of the door.

2. What Series do I need?

There are a number of factors that separate one series from another making them unique. From design, clearance, weight capacity, bearings, pins, number of knuckles, and more, all of these considerations are taken into account when designing a series. Series specifications are located on the bottom of the page to help you narrow down your selection. If you are looking for even more information such as templates, installation instructions, and electrical modification information check out the Industrial Hardware and Specialties Knowledge Base here.

3. What Size Hinge do I need?

Industrial Hardware and Specialties offers Hager Stainless Steel Continuous Hinges in all the most common door size lengths. All 790 Series stainless steel continuous hinges are always installed flush with the top edge of the door. Recommended headclearance is 1/8” (3 mm). Order each hinge equal to the net door height. In the field, trimming should be done from the bottom of the hinge only.

4. Do I need an electrified hinge, and what is the centerline?

If you need an electrified hinge please reference the Industrial Hardware and Specialties Knowledge Base. There you will find all the information you need to properly select an electrified stainless steel continuous hinge. Deciding where the proper location of the centerline is located on your hinge is only necessary when purchasing an electrified hinge. How to choose the correct location of the centerline is also covered in this section of the Knowledge Base.

5. How to select handing?

A standard door used in common applications is said to be either right or left handed depending on which way the door swings open and where the hinges are positioned. If you are standing outside of a door and it swings open to the right away, then the door is right handed with right handed hinges. If the door swings open to the left away from you, the door is left handed with left handed hinges. If the door swings towards you to the right, then it is right handed reverse and if it swings open towards you to the left, it is left handed reverse. For a visual representation check out the hinge and door handing chart.

6.What is a hospital tip?

Hospital tips are used in medical or security areas to help protect against tampering and/or possible injury. This tip prevents hanging any objects on the tip of the hinge. Hager provides all hospital tipped hinges with an NRP set screw in the center of the knuckle, two cross pins, stainless steel hinge pin, and an oil port for lubrication purposes
